Cha das Caldeiras - Fogo
Fogo is an island that you encounter and explore and a visit is not complete without a trip up the volcano – Pico de Fogo. Those people who wish to ascend to the summit can stay with a local family in their basic dwellings located in the village of Cha das Caldeiras. Supper and breakfast are prepared by and taken with the family - this is an income for them. Facilities are very basic. Guides are available to reach the crater, 500m in diameter and 180m deep. The ascent of 1,200m takes approximately 5 hours, the descent takes approximately 2 hours. It is recommended that you are in good physical shape as medical and rescue services are extremely limited.
