The Mar Tranquilidade is situated on the west of Santo Antao in the peaceful, sleepy village of Tarrafal. Tarrafal has a few shops and bars, a school, a church and a health centre. Accommodation is in stone cottages with thatched roofs and these are directly on the beach. The kitchen serves fresh fish and seafood caught throughout the day in the bay.
Getting to Tarrafal can be difficult. The road is very dusty and bumpy with dangerous bends – its not a ride for the faint hearted! Alugars generally leave Porto Novo at 1pm to travel to Tarrafal. This is an excellent place for snorkelling, diving, swimming and fishing. As the name suggests – you will be in pure tranquillity.
