The distance between the islands is relatively long (upto 140 nautical miles) so a good pair of sea legs is a must. Sailing around Cape Verde is demanding because the constant winds can reach NE 4 to 5, building up big waves between the islands.

On some of the longer journeys you will experience long Atlantic waves, which are pure fun for sailing. It is possible to charter, with or without a skipper. Sailors who charter without a skipper must be experienced and in some cases must hold a license.
