Santiago is the largest of the Cape Verde islands, and is home to the nation’s capital city of Praia. Cidade da Ribeira Grande de Santiago was once the capital and took its place on the World Cultural Heritage list in July 2009. Enthroned above the northern part of Rue Banana, it is the oldest standing colonial church in the world and a striking vision.
